Questions, bug reports and feature requests all go to one place:
When reporting a problem, telling us your phone model, Android version and carrier makes it far easier to reproduce.
Common questions
CellBar shows no readings at all
Three different things can cause an empty screen, and CellBar tells you which one applies at the top of the Signal tab:
- "Location permission needed" — Android hides all cell information from apps without the location permission. Grant it from the banner or in Android Settings → Apps → CellBar → Permissions.
- "Location services are off" — the permission is granted, but the system-wide location switch is off. Even with permission, Android returns nothing while it is off. Turn it on in Quick Settings.
- "No cells reported" — the radio genuinely answered with an empty list: no service here, airplane mode, or no SIM.
Why does a signal meter need my location?
Because Android will not hand cell identity to an app that lacks the location permission — that is an operating system rule, not our choice. The second use is the coverage walk, which needs your position to draw your track. Nothing is uploaded; see the Privacy Policy.
Some fields show a dash
A dash means your phone did not report that value. Manufacturers expose different subsets of the radio API, and some values (timing advance, CQI, SINR) are commonly missing. CellBar will never print a zero in place of a value it does not have.
The band says "n78 ~" — what does the tilde mean?
It means the band is inferred, not stated. CellBar computes the frequency from the channel number exactly, but on 5G one frequency can belong to more than one band. When your phone reports its band directly (Android 11 and later on many devices), the tilde disappears.
Can CellBar improve my signal?
No. No app can. CellBar measures; it does not transmit or amplify. It can, however, help you find the best spot in a building, since you can watch the number change as you move.
My Wi-Fi list looks out of date
Android limits how often apps may trigger a Wi-Fi scan (roughly four times every two minutes). When the limit is hit, CellBar shows the most recent list it has and says so under the list.
Managing or cancelling CellBar Pro
Subscriptions are handled by Google Play, not by us:
Google Play Store → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → CellBar.
There you can see the renewal date, change plan or cancel. Cancelling stops future renewals; the current period runs to its end.
I bought Pro but it is not unlocked
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases. This re-reads your entitlement directly from Google Play. Make sure you are signed in to the same Google account you used to buy.
Deleting your data
Everything CellBar records stays on your phone. Clear walk on the Coverage screen removes a recorded track; clearing the app's storage or uninstalling removes everything. See Data Removal.
